As you know, no two colts can have the same name. This is to differentiate them from their future possible offspring.

In order to make sure to “reserve” the name they have chosen, some breeders or owners rush to send in their birth declaration, thinking that they are being granting exclusive rights to the name.

As a reminder, a colt’s name is only definitively assigned when ALL the registration steps are completed (birth declaration, DNA test and microchip implantation). It is therefore not enough to return the declaration of birth and pay for the registration to reserve the name.

This decision was made when we found that several names were thus “blocked” without the registration procedure ever being completed. If breeders wish to actually reserve the name, you must finalize the process of registering their foal as soon as possible.
